Bacteriology

A few days ago mosquitoes, flies, ticks and related biting and blood sucking insects were considered by most of the people to be unworthy objects of serious study, but now it is known that they are the most important factors in the spread of diseases, especially in tropical countries.

It has been established by many investigators that these creatures are the sole agents of inoculation into man of the germs of malaria, yellow fever, sleeping sickness, plague, typhus fever, recurrent fever and other maladies which have brought suffering and death to millions of people.

In most cases, they are not merely mechanical bearers of disease germs from one victim to another, for if that were so the problem of discovering the part they would play would be relatively simple.
Usually, their bodies are breeding places of micro-organisms which they suck from the blood of one victim beast or man and these parasites are afterwards injected into their victims. Insects have thus been shown to be intimately related to the life of man and a branch of study which was formerly considered to be purely of zoological interest has proved to be closely connected with the practical problems of finding the cause and the cure of several human diseases. This branch of study is known as bacteriology.

Penicillin

Penicillin is one of the most useful drugs invented by Alexander Fleming.
With its help we can heal wounds caused by bacteria which can't otherwise be healed.  To begin with, very few people knew of this wonderful discovery and its uses. First scientists and then ministers of  governments got interested in it.
Penicillin could save the wounded soldiers, it could be helpful in war. Since
And so they all decided to encourage the process of its manufacture. Vast factories were set up for preparing it. Lives of hundreds of thousands of soldiers were saved with its help.
Penicillin , when introduced into the stream of the human blood acts as an aid to those parts which are always fighting deadly germs. It does not have power over every kind of bacteria; but certain kinds are destroyed by Penicillin in great majority of cases.

She is a River

Teensy- weensy trickle down the gully,
O'er the moss carpet, where Aster chats with Lily.
Drips and dribbles, oozes and seeps
The laughing child spills and sips.
Down the hills and under the fern,
Voices her thoughts at every turn.
From spring to stream changes her shape,
Goes a long way down to the cape.
With wolffia , waterthyme , bass and cod,
Golden perch and hyacinth odd.
River broadens down at the plains
With time, knowledge and wisdom gains.
Listens to all the prayers and tales
Smiles at life and the death wails.
A woman now and a mother caring,
Overflowing at times, for tasks more daring.

At last she enters the final stage,
Wiser yet weaker, a challenging age.
With a load quite heavy, it turns and winds
Follows the bends of maturer minds.
Cleanses every body and soul,
The grim and dirt take their toll.
The old lady now with steps faltering
Seeks refuge in the ocean- in kind fostering.

My Adventurous Tour to Leh Ladakh

I woke up in the morning of 25th April, 2017 with lot of excitement. The day had come when the most awaited tour of my life was about to begin. I had heard a lot about the rough beauty of the place. We boarded the Duronto express and reached Delhi. We reached Srinagar by air.

Next day , from Srinagar we went to Zero point, the highest point in Sonmarg  by road. We all were mesmerized to see the beautiful snowcapped mountains. Touching the snow was such a pleasure, after all we don't get it in Kolkata! Crossing the zero point through Zozila pass we went to Kargil war memorial. I became emotional when I stepped into the memorial. It reminded me of those brave hearts who sacrificed their lives for the welfare of their motherland.

We reached Kargil about 4:00 p.m. Our next destination was Leh. The road from Kargil to Leh was such a beauty.
Mountains on both sides which almost resembled sand dunes and roads between two mountains, carved out the way for us. The most surprising element was that Leh  was situated at such high altitude but not even a bit of snow was found. However lack of oxygen resulted in a lot of difficulties. After reaching Leh we went for local sightseeing. Thereafter we travelled to Nubra Valley which is close to Siachen via Khardungla Pass; at an altitude of 18380 ft.
Pangong Lake was next on the cards. The road to the lake was extremely craggy. The road made us jump with the car throughout but all was worth when we reached the lake.

The lake was surrounded by beautiful mountains but the biggest astonishment was the colour of the lake. The lake being blue and water being crystal clear, the whole view was absolutely stunning. It is said that the colour of sky gets reflected but the sky was not that blue. It was the most beautiful spot in the whole district.

I came back to Delhi and then to Kolkata and with me I was carrying loads of sweet and sour memories that were to be treasured forever. My advice would be that everyone should at least visit Leh once in a lifetime. The astounding beauty can't be expressed in words.
Trust me , you would also fall in love with the place all over again.
