I woke up in the morning of 25th April, 2017 with lot of excitement. The day had come when the most awaited tour of my life was about to begin. I had heard a lot about the rough beauty of the place. We boarded the Duronto express and reached Delhi. We reached Srinagar by air.
Next day , from Srinagar we went to Zero point, the highest point in Sonmarg by road. We all were mesmerized to see the beautiful snowcapped mountains. Touching the snow was such a pleasure, after all we don't get it in Kolkata! Crossing the zero point through Zozila pass we went to Kargil war memorial. I became emotional when I stepped into the memorial. It reminded me of those brave hearts who sacrificed their lives for the welfare of their motherland.
We reached Kargil about 4:00 p.m. Our next destination was Leh. The road from Kargil to Leh was such a beauty.
Mountains on both sides which almost resembled sand dunes and roads between two mountains, carved out the way for us. The most surprising element was that Leh was situated at such high altitude but not even a bit of snow was found. However lack of oxygen resulted in a lot of difficulties. After reaching Leh we went for local sightseeing. Thereafter we travelled to Nubra Valley which is close to Siachen via Khardungla Pass; at an altitude of 18380 ft.
Pangong Lake was next on the cards. The road to the lake was extremely craggy. The road made us jump with the car throughout but all was worth when we reached the lake.
The lake was surrounded by beautiful mountains but the biggest astonishment was the colour of the lake. The lake being blue and water being crystal clear, the whole view was absolutely stunning. It is said that the colour of sky gets reflected but the sky was not that blue. It was the most beautiful spot in the whole district.
I came back to Delhi and then to Kolkata and with me I was carrying loads of sweet and sour memories that were to be treasured forever. My advice would be that everyone should at least visit Leh once in a lifetime. The astounding beauty can't be expressed in words.
Trust me , you would also fall in love with the place all over again.
