The Giant's Causeway

The Giant's Causeway is a natural rock formation. It consists of about 40,000 interlocking columns, most of which are hexagonal. The columns form huge stepping stones which slope down to the sea . It is the most popular tourist attraction in Northern Ireland. In 1986 , UNESCO declared this as a World Heritage Site.

The Giant's Causeway was actually formed by Volcanic activity about 50 million years ago. As the lava rapidly cooled , it contracted into the distinctive shapes. The Causeway is an excellent place to spot sea birds. Some rare plants also bloom here.

Depression

Depression,Depression, Depression,
The suspicion of this generation,
Counselors giving the caution,
But depression knocking the minds of this generation.
Depression, Depression, Depression,
"What does it mean?" is the question,
With knowledge or without knowledge,
This generation is suffering from depression.
Depression, Depression, Depression,
The actual cause is tension,
Tension for examination, relation and remuneration,   Depression is killing the nation.

Save the world ,
People committing suicide in depression,
Sobbing isn't the solution,
Suggestion is just relaxation.

You Can

If you think you're beaten you are.......
If you think you dare not, you don't...
If you like to win.....But think you can
It's almost an inch you won it !
If you think you will lose you're lost
For out you will find
Success begins with a fellow's will
It's all in a state of mind
If you think you're out classed, you are
You've got to be sure of yourself before
You've got to think high to rise
You can ever win the prize
Life's battles don't always go
To the stronger or the faster man,
But sooner or later , the one who wins,
Is the one who thinks that he or she can!

The Earth Day

Earth Day is a special day that celebrates the Earth. It is the time when we remind ourselves that our earth is precious and we need to take care of it.

The celebration of Earth Day was first introduced on 22nd April, 1970 in California by an American, Gaylord Nelson , who thought of observing the day  to make people understand the importance of keeping our planet healthy and clean . Now over 140 different countries join together in the celebration of Earth Day every year.

The most serious problems, earth is facing today are pollution and loss of the earth's plants and animals. Pollution means contaminating the air, soil and water around us. This affects life on earth. All animals and plants find it difficult to breathe polluted air , drink polluted water and live in polluted soil . Taking steps to prevent pollution in our own lives and throughout the world is one of the most important things we can do to keep life on earth going.

We ought to take care of the earth everyday, not just on Earth Day. But Earth Day  is important because it reminds us to stop and look at the problems of our environment and think of ways to prevent them.

Instant Knowledge

With Internet access easily available everywhere and in mobile phones too, students rely on the Web for doing research work for their school projects .In fact , most students seldom enter a library or refer to a reference book or an encyclopedia these days. It's an age where any information is just a click away.
While the utility of information technology is revolutionary, some conservative educators are concerned about this trend among students for several reason. Students are relying so heavily on online resources and that is taking them farther away from books. Secondly, in the name of research, all that the students do is copy the information and paste it elsewhere, without really understanding and assimilating the information that they are using . Learning and assimilation on of information is a laborious and slow process and the instant online method only facilitates a superficial understanding of the subject. In the age of fast facts , the zeal for a comprehensive research and learning of a subject in order to master it has been lost. While educators continue to debate on the pros and cons of online research, one must acknowledge that the use of the  Internet is here to stay and flourish.

Magic Carpet

Have you ever dreamt of owning a carpet that can fly, wave, flap and alter its shape - like Aladdin's carpet in the tales of One Thousand and One Nights or Disney's Aladdin? Well , that may become a reality in your lifetime. Researchers at the University of Pittsburgh, US, have designed a two dimensional, shape - changing sheet that can do just that. The sheet, roughly  the width of a human hair, can move by itself in a special fluid. Dreams do come true - let's pray this one materialises very soon!

Bobbies

Why are British police officers often called “bobbies"? The concept of modern policing was first introduced in pre -Victorian England. Prior to that, law and order was maintained by night watchmen, constables, and soldiers who were meant to quell political troubles. In 1829, Sir Robert Peel, a minister, came up with the idea of an organised police force that would be accountable not just to the rulers but also to the citizens .Thus was born the Metropolitan Police Force in London, now known as Scotland Yard. People named Robert are often called Bobby, so these men came to be referred to as “peelers" and , more popularly, “bobbies".
